Minard castle was originally a four story castle tower and one of three mid-16th century Fitzgerald family castles located on the Dingle Peninsula in southwest Ireland that were built by the Knights of Kerry. It was partially destroyed by the English forces of Oliver Cromwell in 1650 during the Irish Confederate Wars when he detonated charges at each of it's corners. All occupants of the castle, including many of the nearby townsfolk, were subsequently killed when the roof and three floors collapsed during the attack. The ruins of this castle are located on Storm Beach on the Dingle Peninsula in County Kerry, Ireland.
On a personal note, it was an amazing site for me to visit because my 6th great grandparents were Fitzgerald's of Ireland.
